Causes of Drilling Deviation
Although rotary drilling rigs are known for their efficiency, energy savings, and low noise, drilling deviations may still occur during pile foundation construction.
The main causes of drilling deviation are:
1. Insufficient vertical alignment of the drilling mast, leading to deviation during the drilling process;
2. Inappropriate selection of drilling tools in alternating soft and hard layers, making it difficult to adapt to geological changes;
3. Failure to predict or address underground cavities, causing deviation during drilling;
4. Failure to remove protruding rocks or hard nodules from the borehole wall, affecting vertical drilling.
Preventive Measures
To prevent drilling deviations, the following measures can be taken:
1. Regularly monitor the level and correct any mast tilt to ensure vertical drilling;
2. In alternating soft and hard layers, select appropriate flat-headed drilling tools or double-open drilling buckets to avoid guided drilling deviation;
3. When underground cavities are detected, fill the cavities or install casings to prevent drilling deviation;
4. For protruding rocks or hard nodules, maintain vertical drilling by using the two-step drilling method-first loosening the material, then removing the soil.
